Early Years Leader

Little Squirrels Pre-School are seeking an experienced and reflective Early Years professional to lead our Ofsted Outstanding Pre-School which comes with a dedicated area of National Trust woodland where we run our Forest School.

We are looking for a candidate who is:

- a reflective practitioner, with strong commitment to personal, professional development.

- able to respond creatively and innovatively to children’s interests by demonstrating best practice pedagogy based on child-centered, active learning

- an inspirational Early Years leader, who can motivate and engage children and the staff team

- the ability to recognise and facilitate opportunities for extending and deepening children's learning experiences

- up to date with contemporary knowledge of matters pertaining to the Early Years sector and the ability to ensure this is maintained and appropriately disseminated to others’, including the staff team, committee members and parents

The successful candidate must demonstrate and evidence the following essential requirements. In addition, forest school training is also advantageous. Salary subject to qualifications and relevant experience.

Essential Requirements

Skills, aptitude, knowledge and experience

Must hold at least a full and relevant Level 3 qualification, desirably a level 4/5 or above (or consider undertaking further professional development)

Must have proven experience of working in an Early Years setting

The successful candidate must be able to: 

  • work collaboratively as part of a team (with staff and the management committee)
  • take key decisions independently
  • demonstrate their flexibility, creative thinking and adaptability
  • relate well to both children and adults and have strong communication skills
  • demonstrate an understanding and recognition of the principles of equality and diversity
  • lead the effective planning of teaching and learning across the setting
  • identify and plan staff training needs with staff 
  • have experience of working with other agencies and professionals  
  • work independently using own initiative to manage the setting
  • self-evaluate own learning needs and actively seek learning opportunities for personal and professional development
  • relate well to children and adults including other professionals/carers/parents
  • lead, model and promote good practice in line with the ethos of the pre-school both indoors and outdoors
  • demonstrate that they are highly organised and computer literate (Word / Excel)

The successful candidate will demonstrate the following personal qualities:

  •  ability to turn a vision into a reality through strategic planning collaboratively with the management committee
  • ability to promote the pre-school to the wider community
  • effective communication with adults and children
  • Reflective approach and commitment to personal development
  • Able to provide consistently high levels of quality care and education opportunities to all children
  • Be caring, friendly, approachable, open, inclusive, welcoming, and personable
  • Able to work collaboratively with both staff and management committee to ensure the on-going success of the pre-school
  • Able to maintain confidentiality at all times
