I always knew I wanted to work with children from a young age.
On leaving school I went to college for 2 years and qualified as a nanny. This was my career for the next 12 years. I then worked as a childminder for 2 years after having my daughter Katie.
In 2004 I joined Kilndown preschool and have watched it evolve to what it is today. I have always described small children as "little sponges" soaking up the knowledge we give them. I really enjoy my job and find it very rewarding. No two days are the same......
I have always had an interest in Early Years Education and enjoy teaching.I was attracted to Little Squirrels by the wonderfully positive environment and gentle care of the staff. Also the forest school was an opportunity to extend my understanding and learning of early years by outdoor play and the positive outcomes this brings in the education of the child.I live on a very small fruit farm and love the outdoor environment, the seasons and the beautiful changes these bring all year round.I have already had the joy to experience some of these changes through Little Squirrels and see the children benefiting hugely.
I am continually looking to improve my learning and enjoy the experience of training opportunities wherever possible. Some completed courses include: The Montessori Schools Association Certificate of Continuing Professional Development; Reducing Anxiety, University College, Oxford; Region 8 MSA Event Positive Language Training; Early Years SENCo.
After having had a challenging and successful career in advertising when my children were born I decided it was time for a change of direction.
My children were attending a Montessori School in London and I was so inspired by the ethos that I embarked on a Montessori Diploma at MCI (Level 4). I love working at Little Squirrels as there is such a focus on the individual child and fostering a love of learning through play and exploration both in the nursery and out in the woods.
I was inspired by Health and Social Care whilst at school and knew that I wanted to embark on a career in childcare. I am so happy to be working on my apprenticeship at Little Squirrels – the facilities are amazing here, and I love working with the children and learning all about their interests.
